My Last Natural Project

We’re crossing through a threshold right now where more code is being developed synthetically than “naturally”. That is, created by humans. More and more people are turning to writing both prose and code using LLMs, including me. The thought crossed my mind recently, “Have I written my last entire project?” My work on stuff like PC Volume Control and the second generation of the Go2 Redirector were my last major publicly-facing software side projects.

This gives me a strange feeling. The code I wrote had a personal touch, with all my great ideas right alongside my bugs, the notes to myself, and the documentation. That’s just not something I’m (probably) going to do from here on out because I’ll be offloading most of this work to code assistants.
